With USB, audio and Ethernet connectivity alongside a 40-pin breakout header, the Remote Data Collection Development Kit offers functional convenience for developers of remote data collection applications. Driven by an Overo TidalSTORM computer-on-module, this development kit features a powerful onboard digital signal processor with simple, standard connectivity for sensors of all types.

The Remote Data Collection Development Kit ships with a Ubuntu (Linaro) system card.

This image is recommended for beginners looking to get up and running as quickly as possible. Users who need the absolute latest supported version of Linux or more advanced developers may wish to consider switching to the Yocto Project image.

Get started with your Remote Data Collection Development Kit with these instructions and resources.

Prepare the kit:

  1. Insert the system card into the microSD card slot on top of the COM.
  2. Connect the COM to the expansion board by placing it on top of the marked connectors and pressing down lightly. Warning: Do not press on top of the microSD card slot. Doing so may damage the card reader.
  3. Connect the console port to your development machine using the included USB Mini-B to Standard A cable.
  4. If required, connect the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port.
  5. Establish a serial connection in a terminal on your development machine.
  6. Connect the power adapter to boot the system.
  7. Verify that the system boots successfully to a terminal.

At this point, the system has been configured and you are ready to begin development either via the console port or by SSH into the machine: > ssh gumstix@overo.local > Password: gumstix
