Get powerful graphics processing with OpenGL and DSP on the Overo Water computer-on-module. Our mid-level COM geared towards graphics applications without the need for WiFi.

We recommend considering the DM3730-based Overo WaterSTORM COM; The Overo Water is intended only for users who specifically require the Texas Instruments OMAP3530 applications processor in their design.

Overo Expansion

NXP LPC1769 microcontroller at 120MHz for robotics applications. Manage the CortexM3 from an onboard Overo COM, or from an external host on the HubCommander interface. Onboard sensors, buttons, LEDs, USB Hub, header pins for GPIO/CAN/I2C/SPI/UART/PWM and A/D.


Use Linux in an iRobot Create® by snapping the TurtleCore™ expansion board into its cargo bay carrying an Overo or Overo STORM COM.

Caspa™ VL

Caspa VL camera board has a CMOS imager (Aptina MT9V032, 752 x 480, 60 FPS, color) making it ideal for robotics computer vision. Using an optical filter to cut out the IR range, the Caspa VL receives only visible spectrum light.

The Overo series supports Yocto Project, Ubuntu by Linaro and Angstrom software images. The Yocto Project is the principle build system for Gumstix products, while Ubuntu images are prepackaged with ROS, the Robot Operating System.

Bootable microSD cards with this image installed can be purchased as an accessory or downloaded free of charge and installed on any microSD card.

Images can be written to flash memory on supported products. In the absence of a microSD card, these products will boot from flash memory by default.

Specific notes for the Overo® Water COM

Warning: The standard software distribution does not include support for the OMAP3530 DSP and 3D hardware. The performance features using the standard software images for the OMAP3503 and OMAP3530 will therefore not be identical. Developing code for 3D and DSP is non-trivial, and is a task for experienced software engineers. Utilizing the 3D and DSP will require that developers acquire tools and libraries not contained in the Gumstix OE distribution. Support for 3D and DSP is not available from Gumstix, Inc. Please contact Texas Instruments website for further information.
